WRONG WISDOM

Dogwood that lined the woods all along
standing still, their white open palms
bear a soft draping rain;
veils of pollen and petals are cast
like shadows to the ground.

Even as light grows more green,
rainfall on the pond
tosses swift chartreuse splatters.

Not to be forgotten -
Lilacs are blooming; Crabapple, Plum,
Dutchman’s Breeches, Dandelion;
Quince, Magnolia, and Trillium;
others, and each one is named.

Thunder thrusts, and three
blind nestling wrens
are hatched in the shed.

Not enough, still,
of love in this world.
